LEMON - Natures Happy Oil
Ohhh let’s go to the happy place first, shall we? Aromatically, it's a great ‘raise the vibe’ oil. Diffuse it in the morning to create a cheerful start to the day. The crisp scent of lemon oil improves one’s ability to focus. It works primarily with the digestive, immune, and respiratory systems, promoting healthy function in the body. So it’s a great boost to the body and mind. A fun fact you may not know about our favourite citrus : It takes about 3,000 lemons to make one kilo of lemon essential oil! (Citrus limon)

Emotional Benefits

How to Use Lemon Essential Oil
It's got about a gazillion uses, but here are a few to get you started.
Add 1-2 drops to your water bottle for the day
Diffuse to promote optimistic feelings
Add a few drops to your laundry load
Diffuse in your car to eliminate odours. Use a car diffuser or pop 2 drops on a cotton ball and place in glove box
Add Lemon oil to a spray bottle of water to clean tables, counter tops, and other surfaces. Lemon oil also makes a great furniture polish; simply add a few drops to olive oil to clean, protect, and shine wood finishes.
Diffuse in the kitchen after cooking to eliminate odours
A great remedy for the early stages of tarnish on metals.
Diffuse several drops as desired, or massage over the heart centre daily to increase connection.
For Feelings of isolation, massage 1 drop over the heart centre or diffuse several drops during times of emotional stress.
Add 1 drop to your green smoothie to improve flavour
Combine with white vinegar for the best mirror and glass cleaner going
Fill your kitchen sink and add 4-6 drops of lemon essential oil, soak fruit and veggies for a few hours to remove unwanted residue before storing
PEPPERMINT - The Pick me up
Peppermint essential oil has been used for centuries for digestive problems, sinus, respiration and more. The oil is created by steam distilling the leaves, stems and flower buds. It's most often used to support the digestive, nervous, and respiratory systems, as well as muscular and joint health. It's very cooling to the skin. It is quite powerful and a little goes a long way. You can substitute Spearmint for use with children or people with sensitivities.

Emotional Benefits
The oil of a buoyant heart. This oil is like a breath of fresh air. Rejuvenating to the heart and mind. It helps a person rise above stress, pain, sadness, or fear, and regain the sense of zest and joy for Life. In this way it may be good for someone experiencing grief, hopelessness, and even pessimism, or help a person digest the happenings of their life with trust and understanding. It can be like a moment's relief in the midst of a storm, not to avoid the issue, but to take a breath in the middle of it. If you tend to experience emotional stress in your digestive system (like "knots in your stomach"), this can be a good one to use.
USES
Use a drop of Peppermint with Lemon in water for a healthy, refreshing mouth rinse.
Rub onto temples to ease a headache
Rub clockwise onto your belly to ease an upset, bloated or sluggish tummy.
Roll down sides of the nose and across forehead to clear sinuses and ease sinus tension
Add to any chocolate recipe for a choc-mint taste explosion
Place 1 drop in the palm of your hand, rub together and cup over nose while inhaling deeply for an afternoon pickup instead of that extra cup of coffee
Use a drop or two on your temples to help mental clarity.
Make a cooling spray by combining with water for sun burnt skin
Add 1 drop to your morning coffee for a delish mint twist that will motivate you for the day ahead

LAVENDER - The Swiss Army Knife
This is the oil I carry with me everywhere. "When in doubt, try lavender". Its aroma should be sweet and floral (cheaper brands often have that Grandmother smell- for lack of a better description - due to poor harvest and distillation practices). The real deal is soft, light and feminine. It's popular for use in supporting the cardiovascular system, nervous system, emotions, and skin. This is a must for Mama’s on the go. It is calming for little ones, and I have been known to breathe it in deeply myself when I am pushed to my edge! Immediate calm and release.

Emotional Benefits
The oil of honest communication and expression. It calms a racing mind, allowing a person to settle into their heart and speak with gentleness and kindness. It increases a sense of security and peace, and in this way helps to build trust in one's self and others.
USES
Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet for a restful night’s sleep.
Keep a roller bottle of Lavender on hand for minor and occasional skin irritations and to to ease anxious feelings.
Freshen your linen, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water + witch hazel in a spray bottle.
Add to bath with Epsom Salts to soak away stress
Apply to the temples and the back of the neck to ease muscle tension.
Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts.

DEEP BLUE (aka) ICE BLUE - The Soothing Blend
Let’s go deep. This blend was made for getting below the surface, soothing aches, pains to the muscular system. I take this with me to the gym, to a massage, when I’m feeling tension I rub it in my shoulders, on my belly when I have period pain, muscle spasms, stress, headaches. Basically should be in every person's toolkit for body comfort! A combination of Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus work together to soothe and cool.

Emotional Benefits
Generally used for physical discomfort, it can also help those resisting the emotions that underlie the physical pain. ONGUARD - The Protective Blend
This is a staple in our home that I would never let run out. We use it in ALL the areas. For cleaning toxin free, for supporting our immune systems, for warding off seasonal threats. I also love to bake with it, add it to our smoothies for extra goodness. Diffusing it is a regular. We’ve managed to keep our house (mostly) sickness free since using this one blend! With Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils, it smells like home!

OREGANO - The Fighter
This is one I love to hate and hate to love. I am not a huge fan of the smell, and it is a HOT oil which means it is very intense on the system when not used with care. Having said that, the effects of it are powerful and wonderful. When I am sick? This is like my nurse. It takes care of whatever I’ve got, but not in a pleasant way! I take it in a Veggie cap, and I diffuse. I also love it for cooking!

TEA TREE - The Cleanser
Also known as Melaleuca, I always think of this oil when I am cleaning my house, removing dust mites, getting into gritty corners. It is my go-to for anything fungal, on the body or in my house. The smell reminds me of driving in the country in Australia, with Melaleuca trees growing everywhere. It’s a beautiful fresh, clean smell that pairs great with some of the florals.

I had to save this for last. My beloved Frankie.This is the one for helping regeneration on every level. Skin, emotions, internal healing. With help from this oils, cells remember how to come back to balance and function optimally, like a great big reset. Enhancing meditation, this oil can connect you to your inner light and your true self.

The SET UP
DIFFUSER
Use clean, room-temperature tap or distilled water. Fill to the water level indicator line.
Add 4-8 drops of essential oil. You can add more oil for a stronger scent, or less for in a child’s bedroom.
Experiment with the amount of oil you use and find what works best for you. Also try blending oils you love.
Avoid placing your diffuser in direct sunlight or near a fan.
TO CLEAN A DIFFUSER
Make sure to unplug your diffuser prior to cleaning.
When removing excess water from the water tank, pour from the rear of the diffuser to avoid spilling on the operating buttons.
Clean the inside of the water tank and the outside of the diffuser with a small amount of white vinegar on a cotton cloth. Avoid using any harsh cleaners on your diffuser.
Rinse and dry.
Use a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol or white vinegar to wipe the ultrasonic mist chip found inside the water tank.

THE RITUALS
For KIDS
Set the diffuser up in their bedroom and run 2 drops lavender, 2 drops Easy Air for the 1hour setting while you get the babes ready for bed
Add 4 drops of Lavender to ½ cup of milk (any kind) and add into their bedtime bath
Add 1 drop of lavender to 1 tsp of carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil or olive oil out of your cupboard) and massage into their little feet to help calm their nervous system and promote a more restful sleep
Add 1 drop of frankincense to 1 tsp of carrier oil and massage down their spine to help their busy minds let go of the day and ease into sweet dreams
Add 1 drop of DigestZen to 1 tsp of carrier oil and massage clockwise into their little bellies to ease any tummy upsets after dinner
For YOU
Move the diffuser out into the space you will be unwinding in/sleeping in and set to run for 2-4 hours with the “Let The Day Go” blend (2 Frankincense, 3 Lemon, 3 Lavender)
Boil the kettle and make yourself a soothing cup of herbal tea. Add 1 tsp coconut oil and 1 drop of Lavender for a pacifying nightcap
Add 1 drop of Easy Air to the corner of your shower and inhale with the steam to open airways and promote clearer breathing before bed
Add 1 drop of Frankincense to your evening serum or moisturiser to pamper those mama cheeks (anti-aging, beautifying, smoothing and scar reducing)
Hop into bed and get an unscented lotion, butter or oil (like coconut oil) and give yourself a nice foot massage with 1 drop of Lavender per foot. Pop on some soft cotton socks and enjoy some shut eye, you’ve earned it, love
For MORNING
Pop 1 drop of lemon essential oil in a tall glass of water and hydrate that body (adults only, children should not ingest oils)
Set up your diffuser in the main space and set to run for 2-4 hours with the “Morning Mood” blend (3 Lemon, 3 Peppermint, 2 Easy Air)
Fill your sink and soak (20 mins) any unwashed fruit or veggies for the day ahead with 5 drops of lemon oil to remove waxes and surface contaminants.
Add 1 drop of Peppermint or DigestZen to your water bottle for the day to aid healthy digestion and freshen your breath (adults only).
Dilute 1 drop On Guard in 1 tbsp carrier oil and massage into your little one’s feet before they head out the door to daycare, creche or school to fortify their immune system.
Once per week soak the family’s toothbrushes in a glass of water with 10 drops Tea Tree for the day. Rinse out well before using at night.
For EVENING
Pop a drop of lemon essential oil or On Guard in smelly shoes after they come off little or big feet
Set up the diffuser and set to run for 2-4 hours with the “During Dinner Vibes” blend (3 DigestZen, 3 Lavender)
Massage 1 drop of Frankincense into the back of your neck to release tension and let go of the day
After dinner, add 2 drops of lemon to your dishwashing powder for extra sparkle (there’s a great DIY recipe later in this guide to make in Month 2)
Wipe down benches with a clean damp cloth and 2 drops lemon, Tea Tree or On Guard (or DIY surface spray you’ll make in Month 2)
ON THE RUN
In order to reach for your oils as your first point of call for first aid, emotional support and just all round feel good vibes - you obviously need to have them with you!
Here’s a few ideas for making this simple:

Get some roller bottles and make diluted versions of each oil and blend to carry with you in your bag or purse. doTERRA also make pre-diluted roller bottles that come in a kit called The Touch Kit which takes all the work out of this for you. Also available from your personalised store.
Toss a diluted lavender roller bottle in your child’s school bag for any bites, cuts, grazes or emotional upsets, so they have something to reach for.

doTERRA make a fabulous carrier oil called Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO). You’ll use this to dilute your essential oils to reduce risk of skin irritation, to top up your roller bottles, for cleansing and moisturising your skin and in some self care recipes. Some great alternatives to FCO are simple olive oil, jojoba oil, sesame oil, almond oil, avocado oil, pumpkin seed oil, apricot kernel oil or macadamia oil.
